The Terrific in Terror

Day dreaming and a thought caught me. Everything i have in my life, all experiences showed exactly, how much impact they would have, just by the anticipation they caused in me before hand. The ones that scared me beyond belief, brought with them the greatest experiences, some good some bad but great nonetheless. The ones that were comfortable, were just there, not much fright not much fruit i guess. The anticipation was average, hence the outcome was just that, average, some of them didn’t make much of a difference at all. If they did, it didn’t last long, the euphoria just wore off quicker than it came.

As humans we are okay with average, and i get why. its comforting to know that things are as they should be. With average you get the surety that even if things alter a little you know you can handle the aftermath. On the other hand i finally understand why a person in possession of all their five senses will jump off a cliff with nothing but a rope tied to their waist, why they will jump off a plane in mid flight and call it sport. I finally get it, i mean i always understood the fright it gave you before, but now i get why it must all be worth it, because the aftermath must be amazing. Imagine walking out of a storm, knowing you survived it, and you could probably do it again even if it killed you. now that is something to look back to and smile about. The terrific in terror, that’s how that came to me, the mighty in trepidation, the great in dread, i could go on, but am sure everybody gets it now. Point is i finally realized that how we feel about anything will usually tell us whats coming for us, this is not so we should run. This is so we should know it will all be worth it.

I remember a saying, that goes, if your dreams don’t scare you, they are not big enough. There is so much truth in that. Your dreams must put the fear of God in you, make you lose sleep, and probably want to make you turn and run. The moment you feel that way you know it will be unforgettable. Years down the line It will be you looking back at monumental moments, some sweet and some bitter, but a fully lived life with lessons well learnt, great experiences and no regrets. So run towards your greatest fears and don’t look back because everything amazing is ahead of you……..

Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you don’t do than by the ones you did. So throw off the bowlines, sail away from the safe harbor, catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.”

Mark Twain

“We may place blame, give reasons, and have excuses, but in the end it’s an act of cowardice to not follow your dreams.”
